My Society and her Systems

We all come together to create law and order, rules were created for the Average. It is too cheap for the rich and yet costly for the poor.

Society in itself is a system of normalized averages. What really happens is that there is an average created for the Average. It all comes to be evident when you start asking questions like who sets the moral rules, who told us that these are standards of doing these, this way is the right way, more like who said we have to buy a car to show that we have become successful, or who set the rules that state that you have to go to an office to show that you now work.

Let's bring it home.

Society dictates that your Social media space say Instagram is only said to be booming when you have gotten to say 10,000 followers with no engagement. Growth metrics will say that the number of engagements you have on your few posts by your every follower is more valued than the number of followers. Why exactly did you buy a "Crocs" footwear if you did? (At the time it was in vogue). Largely it was because it was the trend society dictated. This seems to be okay provided we as growth seekers not turn to society for Affirmation.

The use of social media sites has become one of the most popular social behaviors, thanks to the ubiquity and many different opportunities that they offer. We all know that everyone is a product of their environment. Circumstantial life events, influences, and surroundings can further change our behavior. Social media already highly influences our shopping, relationships, and education. But how large of a role does networking through social media play in our lives? Maybe more than any of us realize.

The issue of social acceptance in Nigeria is not new as it has attracted attention for some decades now. As recurring as this subject may have been to analysts of the media space in Nigeria, it cannot be abandoned, because the dimension which it has taken threatens the existence of the country.

In classes, the basic concepts of expression of thoughts are not established as students will rather answer with "Yes he has said what I wanted to say", to questions asked by their Teachers or Lecturers. Just maybe those questions were tailored towards "asserting who is right or wrong" and not "questioning the thought process" of the young minds who are said to be the leaders of tomorrow.

It is not until we come to this realization; how that the concept of social acceptance has eaten into systems, that we can say we are truly Free. Many now call it "Self-love", youths now take cover by declaring that they love themselves, or live for themselves, by themselves (something more democratic). Yet, not accepting the ills, the denial, social acceptance brings.

The minute you break away from "social acceptance", society will set you apart, and put you in isolation, because the simple, most powerful form of punishment is separation and the rich know this, which is why they tell their children to go to a Conner as a means of punishment.
